Sorry about my typo in quoting the W8JI results. Tom did state that a 70 MHz
IF amplifier made his receiver 10 dB worse for intermod, not 20 dB.
After reading George's article (link by Barry below) the 70 MHz IF amplifier
mod is clearly well-designed and thoroughly tested and I'm convinced it's a
worthwhile addition. I apologize if this sounded like I was for or against
anybody or their product; just trying to learn more about my newly acquired
1000MP.
Thanks & 73,
Joe

Huh, t-w-e-n-t-y dB???
For those interested, I've posted W2VJN's explanation of the mod on my Web
site at http://www.albany.net/~bg/Yaesu/MPInrad.htm - George also explains
it in the Inrad brochure.
It is my understanding that in conditions of very strong signals, the "IPO"
switch or attenuator should be used to back off the gain and neutralize the
action of the 70Mhz if amp that is added by the mod. This will bring the
IMD strong signal performance to the same level as an unmodified MP. As
K6SE reported, it's in weak signal conditions that the mod really shines.
