[1000mp] Filters and IF-mod

Hello Scott,

Inrad filters are great! I have some in my Mark V and still three options to
go... I can highly recommend them.

About the 70 MHz IF mod:

I had the FT-1000MP for about two and a half years. I think that the IF-mod
really is an improvement to take away some IF-noise.

Last year I sold the MP, bought a Mark V and installed the IF-mod into the
new rig. After nine months I de-installed the IF-mod from the Mark V. With
real strong signals I noticed distortion. Remarkable is that I did not
notice this distortion with -all- strong signals, but if present I noticed
it on all HF-bands. I really tried the mod for quiet a while. After I
de-installed the IF-mod I did not notice anymore distortion with strong
signals.

I have read about the measurements, because other Mark V owners noticed some
distortion too. Unfortunately I am not able to do these measurements myself.

I also tried several settings with MENU 9-1 (riF-GAin). With the IF-mod I
set this around 7. Without the mod to 13.
I have IPO on 160, 80 and 40 and used my RF GAIN. Despite these settings I
had a real noticeable distortion with strong signals.

And I think that there is not a irritating IF-noise on the Mark V.

73!
Hans Remeeus.
