[1000mp] RX ant input protection

Is it necessary to externally add overload protection to the receive antenna 
input on the 1000MP?  I noticed on p7 of the Technical Overview that the RX 
ant input is not switched off during transmit.  There is reference to a 
"surge suppressor on the antenna input line", but no more information than 
that is provided.

Has anyone come up with a definitive answer to this?
