And after it's all apart remember that you've got THREE different fastener 
threads to deal with, at least that's how many there are on a MK V.

Cross threading steel fasteners, especially into aluminum is bad.

Sorry - just my personal crusade to ensure that future generations of used 
amateur equipment are not as hopelessly marred as the stuff I'm getting 
now  :)

It's not the cleanest mechanical configuration but go ahead and 
remove both covers. You will find that it is not so bad at all.
