You must replace the T/R relay subsystem with one that will support the
required switching speeds. Typically, that means vacuum relays and some
homebrewing -- see AG6K's web site for a proven design on the output. An
alternative that I think should work is Ameritron's outboard QSK unit,
which uses PIN diodes. The issue there, I've read, is that the diodes are
somewhat fragile and intolerant of high SWRs resulting from off resonance
operation, operator error, etc.
The original relay design is pretty slow and can damage some transceiver
relays. I wouldn't try a direct connection to your mark 5, even with the
linear switch on.
