[1000mp] DVS-2 Audio

I've been repeatedly disappointed by the audio recorded
in the DVS-2 that I purchased new this year.  It's probably
too late to return it for store credit at HRO, so I'm going to
try to get it decent.

Yaesu has recommended I record using the stock mike.
Has anyone tried this with success, or do I really need to
adjust every knob on the FT1000MP to get something like
good solid contest audio into the memory?
