Dear W6CS:
The latest Alpha has a resistor plus a bit of frequency compensation
on its input. The result is that looking into the amplifier the FT1000
sees a low SWR. You should not need to engage the Tuner button when
using the Alpha. The larger problem is the reluctance of the Alpha to
operate into much of an SWR.
I do use the tuner when the amp has yet to warm up or when there is
no need for an amp.
