There is no doubt about it, internal Dsp has the advantage over external
Dsp.

An external Dsp is not going to operate as a last I.F. stage as it is in the
1000 line.
An external Dsp is not going to be used as a digital detector stage.
An external Dsp is going to have more noise from the additional stages
before it in the receiver, audio preamp, and main audio output stages.
An external Dsp is going to be sensitivie to audio gain levals provided to
it, expecially variable ones.

Now, there is something to be gained by having an internal Dsp system, and
using an external one, expecially if it is of the peaking type.
