[1000mp] Mark V Field Rx Anomolies

This is not an unusual item in many many digital receivers Carl. My Icom
IC-720 bought new twenty years ago had this problem. As it got worse and
very annoying, I changed out a pll chip and fixed it. In my case it was
phase lock loop related and the circuits in those days used enough chips I
could take out the offending one and replace it. Between this issue and some
of the units having a higher phase noise in the receiver than some others
for this model, Icom came out with a modified version called the IC-720A.
But it had a higher vco drift rate .... hi hi

Today many chips are now inside of one, and not a home item to change in
most cases .... and as many have now posted on this, not unusual. But I for
one would not expect to hear it at the level you seem to have, so should
look into this more. Find some local friends with FT-1000MP/MkV or Field and
compare. From that you can decide if you have a valid concern to pursue
while you are in warranty.

To hear this on my FT-1000MP I have to disconnect the antenna, turn off the
Dsp, turn the audio volume way up past the three quarters wide open, and
then I can barely hear what you describe. Virtually can not hear this when
an antenna is on and any band noise is there at normal volumes.

FT1000MP serial number: 7C170105 ( January of 1997)
CPU Version level: 1.30
Menu 9-8 Date: 970214c2 (February 14, 1997)

This is the kind of issue that can vary from production batch to batch due
to different vendor chips being used, and even the chip manufacture own
batch to batch manufacturing issues.

Good Luck, and let us know what you determine.

My new Mark V Field exhibits a strange behavior in the receiver.
Approximately ever 82 kHz, there is a slight click when tuning across the

snip snip

The behavior does not impair the use of the radio, but it is somewhat
annoying.

Has anyone else experienced this in an MP, Mark V, or Field? Any
recommendations? Do I have defective unit?

Thanks, Carl K3RV.
