Yes, it is probably unnecessary.

Litz wire increases conductor resistance for a given wire diameter. 
It decreases eddy current losses in the wire. 

In a single layer solenoid winding, eddy currents in the winding are 
not a problem. Litz wire will reduce Q, all other things equal. 

If you use a multi-layer coil, the eddy currents might be a factor 
and Litz wire could help Q. 

By the way, insulation has a large effect on coil Q as does turn-to-
turn capacitance. Be sure whatever wire you use has a good dielectric 
that does not unduly increase turn-to-turn capacitance.73, Tom W8JI
