I bought my MkV about 4 months after completing my K2 and have compared them many many times. My MkV has two 1.8kHz one
400Hz and two 250Hz Inrad filters in addition to the stock filters. It's tough to fault the K2. Comparing them on tough
to copy signals sometimes one sounds better and at other times the other sounds better. Although the K2 has better
close in BDR I never found a signal it would block that the MkV wouldn't at equivalent spacing.

The K2 has a somewhat quieter receiver than the MkV but I have never run across conditions on HF where MDS wasn't band
noise limited with appropriate use of the preamps in either of the rigs. A few early K2s had low overall gain but that
has since been fixed and is fixable in the rigs that suffer from the problem.

If you are troubled by hiss in CW operation with the MkV setting menu item 7-7, CW to on will virtually eliminate the
hiss. The rigs are shipped from the factory with 7-7 CW set to on but if you do a reset it defaults to off.

I have the KAF2 in my K2 which is a low pass filter (3.3 kHz cutoff) and an audio peaking filter. This sounds better
than the narrow DSP filters in the MkV. However, it doesn't have the brick wall cutoff that the DSP filters do.

Elecraft now has their 100W version undergoing field testing by about 50 ops. They intend to offer it for sale starting
at Dayton. Price for the 100W conversion for existing K2s will be $359.
