"I remember seeing stuff about the internal keyer Earl. It may well have
been over 4 years up to 5 years. I have never experienced this problem,
but then I use an external keyer. I did use the internal when I kirst go
the rig , but not for long.

At the risk of being scorned, laughed at, flamed etc... could this have
anything to do with the problems encountered when the key is plugged in
the front of the radio, instead of the back?
==========
I had a problem once on 10 meters when using the rear key jack and using
contest logging software to key the rig. The computer would cause a
solid key down when it transmitted rather than dits and dahs. Reducing
power (I was running a KW in the contest) would stop the problem. I
switched to the front jack and the problem went away, even with high
power. After the contest I coiled up the excess key line from the
computer to the rig in an attempt to make an RF choke out of the excess
cable. It worked, and I've been able to use either the front or rear key
jacks on the MP ever since. The problem was obviously RF getting into
the computer and honking things up rather than an MP problem. I assume
that moving to the front key jack changed the "RF in the shack" condx due
to rerouting the cable, which is why the problem.stopped.

Perhaps those that have the "extra dits" problem also have enough RF
floating around in the shack which causes a similar problem in the MP.
If RF is getting back into the radio and causing the extra dits from the
built-in keyer, the solution would be to do something like I did or put a
bunch of ferrite beads on the key line to prevent that RF from getting
into the MP.

I hope noone scorns, laughs, or flames you because you brought up a good
point -- which also reminded me of the computer problem I had when I
first used a computer for contests.
