For my Mark V I use the line out on the SP-8 to drive an NAD power amp and a
pair of Mission reference monitors. I defeat the audio out of the SP-8
speaker by plugging in a 1/4 inch stereo jack. This way I have use of the
volume controls on the rig, although the left and right speakers carry the
same audio, it is far superior to the SP-8. If I had it to do over again, I
would not buy the SP-8.
I have also looked at building a speaker using a mid-bass driver with freq
response from 40-4000 hz. Simple eq pads to flatten any bumps in the
response and to tone down the enclosure, and it would, I suspect, be
wonderfull for ragchewing.
The bible for diy speakers is Vance Dickason's book. Famous.
