I don't do much (none really) SSB operating but in listening to SSB sigs I find
that the middle cut (yellow) contour sometimes helps readability.  NR A or B
helps a little with noise.

For CW at wide bandwiths I find NR A reduces noise somewhat but NR C and D sound
like reverb.  On narrower bandwidths (500 or 250 Hz) NR C and D can be very
helpful on week sigs.  They seem to lift the CW sig out of the noise.
