[1000mp] Mark 5 Warranty Repair

Well, my Mark 5 is going back to Yaesu. I was able to verify that the
roughness I was hearing in the monitor note is, to some extent and varying
degrees on different bands, also present in the RF output on CW. With no
cables to the radio other than the RF output and the power supply, it is
still present, so I think RFI is ruled out. While it's there they are
going to fix the jumping Clarifier control, and they say that as a matter
of routine they will install all factory mods since it was built and
perform a complete alignment.

Anyhow, the reason for posting this is to let people know that Michael at
Yaesu Tech Support told me today that the presence of the INRAD IF
amplifier in a Mark 5 is no obstacle to warranty repair. It wouldn't have
been hard to remove it, but I'm glad it's not necessary. The same goes, of
course, for crystal filters.

He also told me that the current queue for warranty repairs is 3-4 weeks,
up from 2 weeks when I asked a few weeks ago. I surmise this is because
Yaesu is moving to a new location in Cypress, CA effective March 27, and
there's likely to be some accompanying chaos in the repair section.

And finally, applause to HRO. I couldn't find my copy of the invoice for
the radio, but they could, and did, quickly, and it's on its way to me.
