[1000mp] MP vs MkV vs K2

Hello, All!

I have both the Elecraft K2 and the FT1000 MP Mark V, and I am very happy
with both, but for different reasons.

My experience with both the K2 the 1000MP has been mostly limited to using
each as an IF rig for 144 MHz EME and microwave weak signal work.

In those applications, the K2 receiver wins hands down. The K2 receiver is
far superior in the following ways:

Resistance to in-band strong signal overload on adjacent channels (whether
noise blanker is on or off)
Noise Blanker effectiveness
Better tolerance of adjacent strong signals if noise blanker is turned on
Sensitivity in terms of of the ability to copy the very weak EME and
microwave signals.

For my applications I don't see a lot of difference in the filters, as its
really uncommon to have crowded conditions for my applications. The bands
may have adjacent very strong signals, but they are rarely so close that
filter differences might become apparent.

The MP has more bells and whistles, and 'feels' more expensive in terms of
the tactile feedback from its knobs, etc. but the K2 receiver performs far
better.

I use the MP when the bands are quiet and I am not looking for very weak
signals, as I really enjoy its feel and convenient features. But when I
need top receiver performance, I turn off the MP and turn on the K2. After
comparing the two rigs in several EME contests, I learned it wasn't even
worth powering the MP up for that application, given the K2's far superior
performance. Its kind of having both a Jeep Wrangler and a Lincoln
Continental. No need to say which rig corresponds to which vehicle.
