I will pass your words along to Mike Tracy, KC1SX, ARRL's test engineer and
Brennan Price, the brand new Product Review editor. Mike has been writing
some "what it all means" sidebars explaining various aspects of the way
equipment is tested and what the numbers mean. Tey will be put into the
column on a "space-available" basis, because they really are not necessarily
tied to a particular review. You can also expect to see a Lab sidebar from
time to time to explain a testing issue or anomaly in more detail. To
others reading this, let Brennan and Mike how you feel about this first
column in the Price era.
Much of the "what the numbers mean" information is also found in some of the
articles on the Tech Info Service "How to Buy a Rig" page at:
http://www.arrl.org/tis/info/rigbuy.html
To steal a saying I don't recall who said -- A chess game is not won in one
grand move. It is the result of a gradual accumulation of advantage.
Product Review is a great column, IMHO, and I am glad that we are thinking
about ways to make it even better. One step at a time, and keep the
suggestions -- and gripes -- coming. It is nice to see the occasional
attaboy, too, though! :-)
