Pete
As you suggest, it would be pretty strange if Trend Micro were to blame for
my problem. Something strange occurred when I visited their site to run
House Call. First time I triggered it, it went through its download routine
and I got a message saying the download had failed probably due to high
volumes of internet traffic. It invited me to restart the download. I
guess that should have made me more suspicious at the time but I pressed the
button to recommence the download. This time it completed and I ran the
check which gave me a clean bill of health.
I am wondering if somehow Trends download mechanism has been hijacked and
when I triggered the second download I got a look alike that caused the
problem. Seems a bit far fetched but strange things happen in internet
land.
I am using W98. I am not aware of SFC what is this?
Thanks for your help.
