[1000mp] References requested

Oh, lordy me, I'm sure this HAS been asked before, but
the archives are so bloody hard to search when one
must pipe all of one's bits through a recalcitrant
modem which rarely achives more than 14.4k...

I'm ready to plop down the major moola for a 1000. 
Trouble is, which bloody one?  There have been so
many.

Can someone refer me to a web page that besplains the
diffs?  I guess one has a completely separate RX,
another's main feature is that it runs from 12V, and I
think there are a few which are no longer extant.

Believe me, my preference is to go low price, so the
used market is my mainstay.  But if the only way to
get the "right" one is to go new, then I'll
begrudgingly hock my grandchildren's college.

90% of the time I'm a solo op on 160/80/40 DXing and
have vy strong local sigs to deal with, so RX DR is a
big deal (hence, the search for a 1k).

The other 10% of the time the rig will be dragged out
for FD or other contest-type ops.  There is a desire
for stationary mobile ops (there are a few locations
adjacent to seashore where I can erect a temporary
160M TX vertical, and would like to do so without the
need for a generator), but I am quite willing to "make
do" on those occasions with a lesser, secondary radio,
perchance a K2 with outboard amp, designated
specifically for mobile ops.
