Elecraft uses the plug-in approach on their kits, with no interconnect
cables whatsoever.  I assume their decision to do it this way is:

1) More compact design.

2) Ability to sell add-on kits that (SSB, AF filter, 160m, I/O, NB, etc.)
simply plug into the existing boards.

I would think that this approach is slightly less costly parts-wise, but
perhaps a bit more engineering-involved for the PC board layout design.

Obviously it makes troubleshooting easier also.
