To you folks that don't stay on your rig 24 hours a day and want to keep it
dust free when powered-down, you might be interested in what I think is a
neat cover for the MP series rigs.
It all started this way----Originally I used a towel to cover my new MP.
When I bought a Mark V, I decided that it was worth a better cover. I had a
local sail maker sew-up a couple of covers for it from light spinnaker
cloth. I sent one of the covers to the friend, K8PVD, who bought my MP. He
thought it was a great cover, but suggested that it would be even nicer if
the face of the rig could be seen.
I have a shelf above my rig to support my amp and it was a pain to thread
the limber sail cloth over the rig with the shelf above-----so a
second-generation cover was made of semi-rigid foam that I could easily
slide over the rig from the front. The cover had a small clear plastic face
that allowed some of the high tech appearance to be viewed; but, the knobs
kept it so far from the face it was hard to see the front of the rig. A
vacuum molded front, with projections that conformed to the tuning knobs and
was sufficiently rigid to provide a slot for the mic and phone connections,
solved that problem so that front of the cover could hug the face of the
rig.
Based on my experience, I thought that other MP series owners might wish to
have one of these covers. Doug McCann, VA3CR, has photos and ordering
information for this cover on his 1000MP web site. For more info, you can
see it along with an order form on Doug's site, http://www.va3cr.net, or
call DistaView Corp, the manufacturer/marketer at 419-354-5087.
Regards,
Steve/K8BBK
