[1000mp] tuning up while split

I just committed (again) my most frequent operating error. In order to
tune up (key down) before attempting to work VP8GEO split, I had to tune my
main VFO off his frequency, switch to CW mode, and go key down. Then I had
to move the main VFO back to his frequency and, of course, forgot to switch
back to split transmit.

I'm getting tired of hearing "up up." There must be a better way to do
this. The particular problem is to change mode to CW on the TX VFO so I
can tune up using that VFO, and then simply change back to USB and move it
back on the calling frequency. I can't find this in the manual, though it
MUST be there, right?
