I certainly don't have an "holier than thou attitude", as Tom Baugh, AE9B
seems to imply.
I only recently became aware of the MP/Mk V key click problem and
immediately became concerned about my MP's signal. I had heard the
clicks from others on the air but I was naive, thinking that it was due
to strong signals overloading my MP's receiver.
As an old-timer (first licensed in 1955), I thought that if a transmitter
had clicks that you would hear them all over the band as was common with
some home brew rigs in the old days, not just +/- a few kHz, so it never
dawned on me that what I was hearing were klix and not receiver overload.
The problem of MP klix has only recently surfaced on the 1000mp and
Topband reflectors, so only subscribers to those reflectors are aware of
this "well-known" problem.
Again, my comments are definitely not an "holier than thou attitude", but
rather a selfish effort hoping that others will correct this problem with
their radios so that I can hear those weak signals on 160m without them
being smothered by key clicks. I'm sure that all other topband DXers
have this same "selfish" attitude.
