I bought the MD-200a8x in august in Germany (Hoehne, Hannover) for about $
150,-!!
The mic looks great and impressive in the shack! I find the "stand-up" model
very positive.
However the sound is not what the Yaesu Marketing guys try to believe us.
That's why I installed a $ 4,- electret element.
One of the good things of the MD-200 is the ability to install an extra
element. With this cheap electret element the sound is excellent! It sounds
very natural and boosty. I get great reports from everybody, including the
very critical HAMs who live nearby.
I can recommend the MD-200a8x, especially when you get a warm feeling about
its look. If you don't get this warm feeling, buy a cheaper one or try a
shop in Germany.
In my point of view good alternatives are to install a Heil element in the
MD-200a8x or to buy the MD-100a8x.
Kind Regards,
Hans Remeeus PA1HR.
