Six dB sounds like an amazing amount of difference unless the
signal is already 10 or 20 dB out of the noise.
One dB might be the smallest amount detectable by ear with only
one signal present and is unnoticeable if the signal has very little
background noise, but it makes a huge difference in readability on
weak signals or signals with deep slow QSB.
