Tom, I think you misread. I wasn't making a comparison between the newer
Ameritrons (the cross-needle family) and the older generation amps, but
between them and the older (I believe that's true) Ameritrons, such as the
AL-1200, AL-1500 and AL-82. I do stand by my opinion, though -- in my
layman's eye, the construction of the AL-82, AL-1200 or AL-1500 is much
superior to that of an AL-800H. If you believe the construction of the
latter is superior, (not in terms of tube selection, but otherwise) I'd
love to hear where the advantages lie.
