Blocking means the S/N ratio or gain changes some detectable
amount when a single strong signal comes on, IM means spurious
responses or signals are generated that are not really there.
I'll take a little desense (blocking) over IM problems any day of the
week, although I'd rather have neither!
While I haven't looked at a MK V yet, the test reports look
suspiciously like the FT1000(D) measurements I have made before
doing a noise blanker mod. I'm only guessing but perhaps the
same noise blanker flaws were brought forward to the FT1000MP
MK V, rather than learning from past mistakes.
Another problem not always reflected in these tests are spurious
responses not related to IM products caused by synthesizer
artifacts. One JRC transceiver with exceptional IM3 and blocking
performance has so many spurious responses it is nearly useless
for weak signal work on congested bands.
