[1000mp] Inrad 1.8 Filters and Signal to Noise Problems

Hi Peter.....

Yes, I have seen the same thing.....I am disappointed about the noise most
of all.....

I can tell you that I have placed my JPS NIR 10 in the audio output line,
and listen to the Mark V on my Kenwood speaker......

This is the only effective way to kill the noise and work the weaker
signals.....at least with my Mark V, the Mark V DSP settings are no as
effective in the IF, only the top button gives some improvement in
background noise reduction, and leaves the signal readable.....I called
Yaesu and discussed this with Andy Ormandi, their Mark V expert.....He
suggested lowering the IF Gain a bit.....I did this with some slight
improvement.....but, according to my signal generator on 10 meters, this
resulted in a slight decrease in sensitivity, and still didn't kill all the
noise......

I will however change the filters to the Inrad 1.8s......With the DSP in the
audio line, it should work pretty well.....But, I believe I still will
eventually send the radio to Yaesu, and let them bench test and retune the
unit.....I'm not going to do it myself......why should I after spending all
that money....

I also notice that my RF output is not consistently 200 watts across all the
bands....it starts out that way, but decreases to 175 on 20, about 150 on
15, and maybe 125 or so on ten meters.....How about your unit, I checked
mine with an Autek Research WM-1......

I'll let you know how the Inrad change works.....I won't send the unit back
to Yaesu, until it is completely burned in, and has a few hundred hours on
it......

Best wishes & 73,

Mike Schatzberg
