Hi Bill,
If you turn off the VL-1000 RF unit, but leave the VP-1000 power supply
powered up, the ANT1 relay (RL7001) on the ANT-SW Unit board is held
operated by default, thus maintaining the receive signal path via the ANT1
socket. The INPUT 1/2 selection relay (RL4003)on the Divider Unit board is
non-operated, maintaining the signal path to the INPUT 1 socket.
If you power down the VP-1000, RL7001 releases and opens the receive signal
path. You will need to leave the VP-1000 powered up to keep the receive
signal path open. This has the added advantage that the auto-routining
feature will exercise all relays in the system for contact-wetting
(cleaning) purposes.
This information was derived from the VL-1000 Service Manual. Please check

Subject: [1000mp] my Yaesu VL-1000
I'm VERY happy with my Yaesu VL-1000 amplifier.
It's a tad lower power than my other amps, but the automatic tuning and band
change far and away make up for that.
I have just one request.
Does anyone have a mod that will allow me to turn it off?
It's turned on and off automagically by the MP.
Seeing as how I can tune the bands for hours without transmitting it seems a
waste of energy to have the VL in a ready state.
I can flip that switch on the back, that turns off the amp but also grounds
the antennas. So that doesn't work.
I see the problem, how will the MP have the right antenna if the VL's not
powered up, just wondering if someone found a work around.
Happy NY to all you Yaesurians.
