If EDSP is off, menu 7-7 has no effect, otherwise An-r should definitely be 
set to "off" as Dave suggested.

In AM receive, I like to listen in dual receive mode with sync detect on 
main rx.  It's an interesting diversity stereo effect, and you can tune both 
receivers together by momentarily holding the lock button.  It also allows 
you to accurately tune in the AM signal without resorting to zero beating.
