I'm still trying to make sense of this and appreciate W9NHQ's input.  I just 
found just a hint of information on p41 of the tech overview.

I think the received signal coming off the xmit antenna is routed to RX ANT 
OUT and you can put in external filtering/loop it back into RX ANT IN or 
feed it to a second receiver.
