I don't know if this has been covered before...if so please excuse the
bandwidth.
About 2 months ago I purchased a new Mark V Field. I am basically a CW
operator and was a little disappointed when I turned on the new radio
and there seemed to be an automatic narrow audio filter placed in the CW
mode when in NOR mode. This would cause a strong CW signal nearby to
take over the passband and when tuning the band I would SEE the signal
on the meter before actually hearing it. I found myself using USB to
scan the band. Soon after I received the new radio I had to take a trip
so could not research more. On my return a few days ago I decided to
see if YAESU had in fact put an audio filer in the CW mode. I looked
thru the owners manual and found a yellow piece of paper with some
"Corrections to the Field Manual" on it (you know....the kind you look
at when you first get the radio and PUT ON THE SIDE!).
The sheet indicated that the EDSP settings in menu 7-7 had been changed
to "FACTORY PRESET PERFORMANCE PARAMETERS" instead of the DEFAULT
settings. The CW RX EDSP had been turned ON creating an audio filter
when in CW mode instead of the DEFAULT - OFF. I changed the setting in
menu 7-7 to OFF and the CW audio filter is gone. Now when scanning the
band I can SEE and HEAR the CW signals at the same time. A MAJOR
difference to me. There are a few more EDSP "FACTORY PRESETS" in menu
7-7, however I was only interested in the CW RX setting and only changed
that one. I don't know if the above is also applicable to the MARK V
but I would guess they are. My radio was built in June 2002. This is
"Information Only" as some of you may prefer the audio filter in CW
mode.
