[1000mp] ft1000mp mkV amp switching

Dirk,

If you want to add a simple circuit to the SB-220 to bring the voltage down
to 12V @ 2 ma, there was a mod published in QST (January '88, page 45),
which I found to work fine. The benefit of using that mod instead of the
relay in the MP or Mark-V is silent T-R switching in the transceiver, though
the relay is pretty quiet. You eliminate any question of relay limitations.

If you don't have access to the article in the magazine or on a CD, I can
fax it to you. It's just one page. (I could scan it at work and email too,
but I've never used a scanner!)

BTW, the electronic bias switching mod in May 1974 QST worked well for me
when I had a 220. I have that article too. It wasn't QSK but did cut off
plate current during key-up.

Connect the TX GND jack on the transceiver rear panel to the ANT relay
jack on the SB-220 rear panel. Set the LIN OFF/ON switch on the
transceiver rear panel to the ON position.

That's all you have to do. The relay in your Mk V will handle it ok.
