All.
I originally tried to post this in reply to the questions raised re the
FTV1000 & FRB-5 a week or so ago, but due to finger trouble on my behalf, (I
sent it from the wrong email address) it was never actually posted, so here
we go again:
Duncan & all,
I see no reason why the FRB-5 could not be used to work with something other
than a FTV1000, though due to its design some mods may be needed, so to
clarify:-
Once the FRB-5 is fitted to the MP it is necessary to have the FP-29 power
supply switched on in order to enable the PA in the HF Rig, this is because
the mod uses a relay to replace the transverter switch function, and needs
the 28V from the FP-29 to hold it closed which equates to the 'normal'
position of the transverter switch. This is probably the opposite of what
would be required for most transverter designs, but is needed for the FTV1000
because when it is switched ON, it removes 28V from the power socket that
would be connected to the MkV, but now goes to the relay on MP. i.e.
with the FP-29 on and the FTV1000 off, 28V is supplied to the relay.
The second (minor) detail is that 28V is used to switch the relay, but in
actual fact the relay appears to be a normal 12V one with series resistor.
Having said that some transverters (e.g. the MkII Mutek ones) use 28V rather
than 12V in any case.
Hope this helps.
