The several messages on this topic sure struck a chord with me. My FT-1000MP was purchased new while they were being taken off the market at the time of the Mark V's introduction. (I believe that it was made in the last month of FT-1000MP production.) Not being a 160 meter user, it took a long time for me to discover that I had only very low power on 160 meters. When I returned it to the dealer they found that the "9" series menu had the radio set for a different market -- Japan as I recall. Apparently (but this is only my opinion) those last few radios that came out of Japan were revised as what market they were headed for without changing the programming. A simple matter -- but a real puzzle if it is dropped in your lap without any additional knowledge.
The deal fixed the radio in an hour or so and I got it back. Otherwise, this has been one of the most perfect new radios I have ever purchased.
