Pete,
What is your Mark V off to get serviced? I just bought one and am enjoying
it but I see a lot of them being serviced.

S-meters are amusing. My Mark 5 is off for service, so I've been relying
on my TS-930. Where my local 10M line noise on a good day is S5 on the
Mark 5, and on windy days can hit S9, it doesn't move the S-meter on the
930. It seems that the S-meter on the Mark 5 is extremely generous below
S9 -- something like 2 dB per S unit, some folks have reported -- while the
TS-930 is much less so. Subjectively, it's hard to tell myself that the
noise level hasn't really improved, and to keep on harassing the power
company, but I'm working on it (hi).
