Goetz,
  According to all the other answers you have gotten, I must be missing the 
boat.
What I do is set up the main VFO for RX and sub for TX and then swithch the 
VFOs
with the a to b b to a switch. The tune the main vfo and find the pile and 
switch back.
I do this on all pile ups in all modes. To me it's much easier than 
listening on
both at the same time.
