Traditionally, CW was a requirment for getting a ham ticket.... Because it
required a bit of interest, dedication, stickability, balls, and hard WORK,
it kept idiots off of the ham bands..
It also had the added advantage of "levelling the playing field", in that
the guy with little technical education and a lot of interest in the hobby,
was just as likely to get his ticket as the highly qualified "techie"..
Very democratic...!!
Nowadays, of course, as the cw requirement standard drops, the IOK index
(idiots per kHz) rises..
Oh!...I nearly forgot... CW is also a radio mode...And some would claim that
it's an art form...!
