Hello Brad,
about the best headphones for FT1000MP:
I used to listen through Yaesu YH-77Sta headphones up to about 18 months
ago - really good light hp, stereo for single and dual rx.
After reading product reviews on www.eham.net and searching even better hp,
I found that some US hams (and some people also broadcast people) preferred
the Sony MDR-7506 (professional user version of Sony V-600, 7506 is used in
broadcasting from more than 10 years).
I bought it 18 months ago and I must admit that it is a wonderful headphone
for CW or SSB dx-ing or contest, better even for listening signals digged in
the noise or S9+30dB level. It has a lot higher audio definition than
YH77Sta, nicer CW or SSB sound, and can be used all contest along without
tired ears or head - it is a closed earpads-noise reducing kind but very
light.
I use it directly on Ft1000MP in stereo for dual-RX or on Yaesu SP-8 (mono
and audio filtered for less hiss as I dont like FT1kmp dsp filters).
You can use MDR7506 also on high quality hi-fi system, with top performance
(apart broadcasts it is used by recording studios people).
I have read that MDR-7509 (or the lower no pro V-900) is even higher
fidelity and higher price, but I was sure I dont need them for HF
reception.
Really I think that Sony MDR-7506, available in all US professional music
store, is the best!
73 and season's greetings
