Hello to all. This is Bob Hughes in Cave Creek AZ. Thanks for responding to
my call.

I have a Mark 5 with a couple of abnormalities like some of you have.

1. My antenna tuner also does not completely zero out the SWR. After holding
the A/T button and letting the A/T tune, the Mark 5 still indicates some
reflected SWR in SSB mode, indicating an impedance mismatch. Don't know what
the cure is. I talked with Yeasu about it and all they could say was "well,
that's the way it works"!! I don't buy it! I normally don't use the A/T but
from my past experience with Yeasu, K/W and others, this is the first rig
that I have owned that doesn't totally zero out the SWR. It doesn't matter
if I have my antenna or a dummy load connected.

2. The other bothersome thing that I have noticed is that on each band there
are specific frequencies where when you are tuning one hears a slight
"thump" (as best I can explain it). On 20 meters it occurs at 14172, 14254
and 14335. Other bands have the same "thump" at specific frequencies. Do any
of you have the same "thump" on your M5's?? It's very subtle but there. Can
anyone expalin why this condition occurs?

3. If any of you are interested, I run a net each Saturday morning called
the Digital Radio Net (formerly the Kachina Net) on 14280kHz at 1530Z. We
discuss all sorts of digital stuff as it relates to ham radio. Check in if
you have interest.
